Description

Playing with Clay is a fun introductory class to the world of hand building. During the semester students will learn several different hand building techniques such as: slab, coiling, pinching, and sculpting. I use different projects to demonstrate each of these techniques during our class.
Students are welcome and encouraged to copy, and adapt these projects, or change them completely and come up with their own creations. There is no right or wrong way to create art, and I will help students to create whatever it is they like.

My classes run on a three week rotation. We start with two days clay creating classes, and then one day of painting to bring those creations to life. I use an earthenware clay, that is air dried, then fired in my kiln. Once fired, I bring them in to be painted with acrylic paint. I use acrylic paints because they are quick drying, have a wide range of vibrant colors, are permanent, and can always be painted over in the case a change is desired.
