Minecraft for Pros and Noobs

Do your children yearn for the mines?

Whether you've been playing for years, or are only creeper-curious, this is the class for you!
Join us for a weekly 90-minute session of mining, crafting, building, exploring, playing mini-games (but the fun is full-size!), and, of course, defeating zombies. Participants will develop social skills, think independently and creatively, practice teamwork and positive competition, learn how to be a good gaming/digital citizen, and learn new game techniques. All content and language in this class will be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

This class is ideal for students age 8 and up. But age isn't everything, so this will be a soft limit. If you feel this class would be a good fit for your student but they do not meet the age criterion, please speak to the instructor before registering. 

To participate successfully in this class, a student should be able to:
-- behave respectfully toward the instructor and all fellow students
-- follow instructions
-- operate the game and communication environments with minimal assistance

The class will take place on Minecraft's Java platform, played on PC. Bedrock platform will not be able to connect. We will also use Discord to enable players to have a voice chat open during sessions. (Players too young for their own account under the Discord TOS may sign on through a parent's or older sibling's Discord account.)

We will be available to assist prior to the first meeting for any families who need help getting started with the Java platform or Discord. There will also be an optional parent meeting for any parents who are not familiar with Minecraft and would like some eyes-on experience before they sign up.

Each meeting will be hosted in a private game server, accessible only to the members of the class. The class will be led by Nico Ness, and an emergency adult will be present throughout all sessions. If your child is ready to make the leap from solo play to server play, this is a safe, supervised opportunity to dip their toes in that pool! Parents are always welcome to sit in on classes, if desired.

Drop-in players will be welcome, assuming the class has open player slots for the week, at $15 per session.
